Siku and Nilak arrive in Canada, but their experiences could not be more different. Nilak is deeply homesick, constantly crying and longing for his motorcycle and the snow back home, while Siku adapts quickly, studies with ease and enjoys meeting new people. At university, Nilak asks Siku to keep his distance in class, hoping not to stand out. While Siku grows more confident and comfortable in his new surroundings, Nilak becomes increasingly withdrawn, earning the affectionate nickname “little candle.” Everything changes when Nilak unexpectedly disappears for a night. Worried and confused, Siku discovers that Nilak has found a group of homesick friends from India and Spain who share a “ritual of tears” to cope with missing home. When Nilak returns, Siku’s unusually strong reaction surprises them both. Nilak begins showing a new confidence, while Siku becomes increasingly nervous about his own feelings. After speaking with his Japanese friend Quito, Siku finally considers a possibility he had never expected: maybe what he feels for Nilak is more than friendship.
